Complete 2026 BECE School-Selection Guide

What is confirmed for 2026

WAEC lists the 2026 BECE timetable, while selection and placement remain separate processes administered through Ghana's education authorities and CSSPS. At the time of this review, SchoolFinder Ghana had not located a newly published 2026 school register or revised 2026 selection brochure on the official GES and Ministry of Education websites.

This guide therefore uses the latest 2025 register imported into SchoolFinder Ghana and established GES selection principles. Candidates must compare every recommendation with the register and instructions issued by their JHS for the 2026 selection exercise. A school category, programme, vacancy or residential option can change between editions.

Prepare before completing the selection form

Start with the learner, not the school name. Record the learner's strongest subjects, preferred learning style, realistic travel area, boarding or day preference, support needs and two or three possible career directions. Then identify programmes that preserve those directions.

For every candidate school, verify the exact name and code, region and district, category, gender policy, residential status and programme. A school offering General Science is not automatically the best fit for every learner interested in health or engineering, and a well-known school is not useful if the required programme or residential option is unavailable.

• Use the official register supplied for the selection year as the final authority.
• Write choices in genuine preference order; do not assume the system will rearrange them for you.
• Keep screenshots or a signed copy of the final choices and school codes.
• Have a parent or guardian and a school official check the completed form before submission.

Build a balanced list

Use the current register rules to determine how many main and alternative choices are required. The 2025 register used by this site describes five main choices and two alternatives, with limits on Category A and B selections and a prescribed mix of boarding and day choices. Do not copy these numbers blindly if the official 2026 form says something different.

A resilient list usually contains one aspirational option, several well-matched options and safer options that still offer the learner's preferred programme. Safety does not mean choosing an unwanted school. It means choosing a suitable school where placement pressure may be lower and the learner can genuinely enrol.

After submission

Keep the candidate index number and selection record secure. Follow announcements from the candidate's school, GES, CSSPS and WAEC rather than relying on forwarded social-media messages. When results and placement are released, confirm the school, programme, residential status and reporting instructions before paying anyone or travelling.

If the candidate is not automatically placed, use only the official self-placement process. Available schools are constrained by vacancies and eligibility, so the strongest preparation is to understand acceptable alternatives before placement day.
